![]() I'm still researching best I can but was hoping someone here could shed some light on the subject for me and tell me where the PTO control lever is so I can engage it to operate the winch. I'm trying to figure out how to engage the PTO so I can operate the winch but the PTO control/engagement lever is not where it is suppose to be according to the operators manual, only a grease zerk (again, not sure if the operators manual is for the right series) and the tech manual simply references that there is a control lever and the parts manual doesn't even have a PTO section nor can I find any reference to it in the transmission section. All the manuals are for a straight 450 but since there is a split somewhere in the 450 model, it leaves me unsure if I have the exact right manuals or not. I also picked up an operators manual and parts manual for the machine off of eBay which I'm not positive those are the correct ones either (no serial number and not knowing the year/model series is a real pain for parts). It also came with a tech manual but do not think it was the original so I'm not sure if it is for the correct series of straight 450s. The machine came outfitted with a 3305 winch off of a 540A skidder which is operated by a manual lever (assumed to be rigged up by the previous owner since it isn't a stock 450 winch) along with a log arch. I have a straight/plain 450 crawler loader (unsure of year due to serial number placard missing). Thank you.For those who haven't seen any of my previous posts. It looks simple, but I am not seeing something I guess. Other than having to remove the two springs to take the tension off the plate, pull the bottom pin which I would think would allow me to turn what I think is the adjustment rod, I am thinking I would have difficulty in placing not only the springs back but to get the "T" section back on the brake band. My problem is that when I try to move the nut that is above where the springs hook to, the entire plate wants to turn. I tried to move this top hex nut which appears to be one piece that goes up into a round slot so it could turn. ![]() On the top side of this plate where the springs hook to there is a hex nut that I would think when moved either clockwise or ccw it would tighted or loosen the band adjusting the tension. ![]() Underneath the plate there is a nut which appears to lock the adjustment in place. It has two yellow springs, that hook both top and bottom with a threaded rod type adjustment device. I took off the side cover of the winch on the left side as you stand behind the winch and located what appears to be a quite simple adjustment. Very few exceptions that the load will stay there, but as you drive away most of the time if you don't continue to winch the load to you as you are moving the break doesn't hold. The problem is when the lever is in the center position to hold the load behind you. When you place the lever to the back it is now in free spool, the lever stays there and it free spools perfectly. When you release the lever it automaticly returns to the center position setting the brake or tightening up the band to hold the load. The lever to the winch is spring loaded, meaning when pushing the lever toward the front it will winch in fine. What is happening is once I put a load on the back and winch it in the band doesn't hold all the time. As indicated in the "new member" section I mentioned that I had a 350C and sold it to get a straight 450, I too have a winch issue. Being new to this site I had no idea where to post my question, I found this forum regarding this winch so I thought I would start here.
